From an eighth-storey window just off Marine Drive, we observed a parking lot of rickshaws. Two attendants minded a fire that had kept them warm through the cool night. In an hour or less, drivers would come to pick up their livelihood and begin taking passengers, including myself, up and down the main strip of Cox’s Bazar. My employer did not deem these three-wheelers safe, but I used them all the time and tipped handsomely for the service. My rendezvous in this skyscraper were made possible by these rickshaws. From May 2020 till the end of 2021, this was my ride. Many videos and photographs honour these wheels.
